About me
I was born in Grantham in Lincolnshire, I have two older sisters, a younger sister and brother. My family moved up North to Bradford. when I was seven. I failed my eleven plus and attended a Secondary Modern School. I was always good at English although my attempts at writing poetry were poor to say the least. When I left school I got a job in a Groceries and Provisions shop in the City Centre, however I could not come to terms with the task of cutting and preparing meat. I turned my attention to shoes and joined the staff of Busby's Shoe Department where I worked for a year or so until the offer of better prospects led me to Timpsons where I worked my way up to become a manager. I worked for them for twenty six years.
My Testimony
From the age of three I attended Sunday School and at the age of twelve I realised that this Jesus that I had heard so much about not only loved me but chose to pay the price so that I could have eternal life. I asked Him into my heart, and was baptised. The years past and we moved area and church. For a time we went to different ones. When I was eighteen I prayed that the Lord would send me a wife. A few weeks later I met this girl. She intrigued me. We fell in love and we married in 1968. Over the years we stopped going to church regularly. When the children came along we sent them to Sunday School. One Sunday morning I was in the bathroom and suddenly started singing Rejoice the Lord is King. I'd been feeling down in the dumps and it came as a surprise. I realised that I'd been concentrating so much on renovating the house that I had been neglecting my relationship with God and felt sure that I must go to church. There was a church just up the hill so that seemed ideal. I re dedicated my life to the Lord and from that day I found I could write poems. Many wonderful things have happened since then, some of which I will tell in Other writings Copyright Jack Brown © 1999
