The Millennium

-

There's a thing coming up called the Millennium.

What does that mean to a Great Grandmum,

who has seen so many sights and changes,

Inventions entertainment and dances.

-

The rubbing board, tub and mangle have all disappeared.

Making room for when the electric washer appeared.

Working hours were long and wages were poor.

Took all their time to keep the wolf from the door.

-

Meals were cheap but wholesome.

With sixpenny worth of bacon bones.

One day you should try some.

-

Mother was always there when we came home from school.

Woe betide any of us if we tried to act the fool.

She had the table full of home made bread.

Different from what we get today in wrapper white and red.

-

Kings and Queens have come and gone.

Princes and Princesses have been born.

Wars have been fought in their honour,

People left to their grief and sorrow.

-

What will this millennium bring?

Will it bring peace to a troubled world?

When all people will find love

And happiness for one another tenfold.
