Sandtoft

Some years ago (July 1998), I was asked by a friend if I would like to go to Sandtoft to see their Trolley bus collection.

Bradford was one of the last Cities in England to run a Trolley bus, so naturally I was intrigued by the idea. When we arrived I was surprised to see a few from Bradford and a Huddersfield one too.

Memories came flooding back of the days as a boy when we visited my sister, who then lived at Almondbury, Huddersfield We (my Dad, my brother and I) would travel from Bradford by bus, and I would always look for the first Huddersfield trolley bus at Bradley Bar. They were different from the Bradford Trolley bus because they had six wheels, two at the front and four at the rear. Well here it was (or rather one like it). We queued for a ride and after we had had our fill of nostalgia, we went to look at the array of vehicles in the next field.

After a while we came to some older buses, some of which had yet to be renovated. I moved on a little further, as Carl and Stuart and Chris looked over an old Liverpool Bus. Suddenly I was in front of a number 18 Bradford Trolley bus with it's destination board reading Tong Cemetery. I'm not so sure that No. 18's went to Tong, but anyway there it was, and I remembered the time as a lad I used to go from Highfield School to metalwork class with the rest of the pupils from 4b, down to the School at the bottom of Wakefield road. In order to get there we had to travel on the (Tong Cemetery - Bradford City Centre) bus.

Of course the return journey was undertaken in more hurry because we had to get back for lunch. I remembered that on this particular day I was pushed from behind by about twenty boys as we got on, knocking the conductor flat against the stair well, almost pushing him into the luggage bay under the stairs. He was most angry and made me sit downstairs, whilst the rest of the class went upstairs. He shook his finger at me and said that if any tickets had come out of his machine I would have been made to pay for them I felt very bad about this at the time and thought I was very unjustly dealt with. suddenly, as I was standing in front of this big trolley bus, looking up at the destination board I felt God's presence and the thought/word/feeling came to me, 'I was with you then'. I realised with tears in my eyes something that I already knew He has been with me in all the unjust times.

When you ask Jesus into your heart that's where He is.

If you never asked Him into your life why not ask Him now?

If you've allowed yourself to slip away why not come back right now?

If you know Jesus as your Saviour then look at your life you will see He is with you too.

What can I say.
